Free Market is a hybrid retail/food experience located at Runway. It is a new kind of retail experience with a curated selection of products, services and events programming. Located within the larger Runway shopping district, the space extends from the public sidewalks into uniquely scaled shops & restaurants with pop-ups in between. Breaking from the traditional continuous storefront, we added intimately scaled structures that protrude from the facade and encourage pedestrians to wander and explore. Simple, industrial materials focus one’s attention on the relationship between the volumes as well as the products themselves, and provide a unifying landscape for a rotating selection of curated brands.

As part of a larger creative re-envisioning of the Runway center, Freemarket is designed to be a human-scaled antidote to the multi-story density of its surrounding development. D,B produced the overall vision for Free Market in addition to acting as design architect for the five anchor tenants.
