This edition of Backyard Bowls taps into classic modern beach house/surf shack iconography typical of the 1960’s on both east & west coasts. Here, a practical sound problem was tackled by the creation of the “blending chamber” which cleverly tucks noisy kitchen appliances within scaled down vernacular materials. A mural abstracts the coastline where picture-perfect compilations of fruit, grains and açaí are at home. The indeterminate architectural space is defined by crisp, clean lines and vintage utilitarian camp.
