Chigasaki Surf House

Chigasaki, Japan

In collaboration with Japanese design company, California Komuten. Key design elements are the desire to open the house more to the outside and create a 'California style' living arrangement, while preserving the bones of a mid-century architect designed bungalow. This involved opening the living room with large doors to the side garden, creating an outdoor covered porch, opening kitchen to living room and adding more connections between other rooms in the house. Color and mirrors were used throughout to add brightness and playfulness, and a mix of natural textures and painted surfaces add to the California feel.
